Tutorial Area Grey Box

At this early stage I had the first area, including puzzles and pacing, designed and ready to be created and put into an engine, to get a feel for what the area would be like.

So I got started in Maya, which I decided to do as it is an easy way to create a stage that, although rough, can give a much better look and feel than that of a grey box created in unity. This took me a short while and I created it by eye, the spiral area taking the longest.

The first area with a collapsing bridge and a block that you push over, taking a alternate path to progress.

The second area with rising sand where you clear a blocking in the wall, sand falls in to the pit and you can make your way across.

An area where the player can take a short look around to ease the pace of the level. Though at this point, there isn't much to look at.

The final area, there is a spiral path going upwards, with a jump near the bottom and at the top.

These levels are designed so that the player has to interact with the environment, however they are not rushed or surrounded by complex puzzles. The path that they need to take is clear and gives them room to breathe, they just need to figure out how to get through it.
